Wacky Wine Weekend

With over 60 Connect-123 interns recently arriving in Cape Town from points as far away as Romania, Switzerland, and Panama, we decided to start their local experience with a bang and headed to Robertson’s Wacky Wine Festival last weekend.  Our early departure and the cold, rainy weather did not deter our intrepid group of wine connaisseurs. Everyone was looking forward to getting to know each other better and to seeing a spectacular part of South Africa.

We spent the first day moving from farm to farm, tasting an assortment of wines, olives and cheeses. After watching rugby at our campsite at the Arabella wine estate, we headed off to Rietsvallei for dinner, comedy and more wine. We arrived back at the Arabella to find a party in full-swing, with live music, plenty of dancing, and lots of friendly South Africans.

On Sunday morning we awoke in our tents to the treat of spectacular mountain scenery and horses roaming the paddocks around us. We had an impromptu braai (barbeque) with some animated locals where we shared stories and photos of the previous day. Everyone got into the bus around mid-morning tired, wine-stained, in need of coffee, but happy. The Wacky Wine Festival was a great success and definitely on the agenda for next year.
