Animal Science and Wildlife Volunteer Programs

Volunteering with animals and wildlife in Cape Town can take many forms. When you think of African animals your first thoughts may be of the ‘Big Five’. However game reserves typically minimize any interaction between their staff and these kinds of animals, to avoid human ‘imprinting’. Furthermore, Cape Town’s nearest game reserves are a couple of hours’ drive outside the city. However, if you’re looking for exposure to some of our unique wildlife how about helping with the rehabilitation of African penguins and other seabirds, or volunteering at a cheetah outreach program? Previous Cape Town animal science and wildlife volunteers have also worked at a vet practice, an animal shelter, and a nature reserve that is home to a hippo family!
