UCT Only African University in Times Top 150
By Eimear Costigan
This week saw the publication of a list of the top 200 universities in the world according to the Higher Education Supplement of London-based newspaper The Times. The University of Cape Town (UCT) has moved up 33 places from its 2008 ranking to join the 150 best universities in the world.
The four main criteria that are considered when compiling the list are:
- High-quality research
- High-quality teaching
- High graduate employability
- An “international outlook”
This endorsement of the quality of UCT’s teaching and research is good news for participants on Connect-123’s Social Entrepreneurship Program at the University of Cape Town. Students take a required core course that combines blending experiential and classroom-based learning, as well as two other electives from the UCT course handbook.
