Cape Town is a very special place. There is a beautiful beach, a lively city/night life, and mountains that offer some really spectacular hiking routes. It is a city with much diversity and rich history. I worked for a social enterprise, and it was a place that began to feel like home to me. The tasks were challenging at times but they also provided the freedom to design and create in my own way. I was able to set up a crowd-funding video and create new catalogue layouts for their wholesale and retail items. This internship experience showed me that I'm going into the right field of work, and I am very grateful for that because some of us often feel unsure about it. Overall, I am beyond satisfied with the whole experience Connect-123 has provided - a lovely foundation of friends and extremely dependable advisors who always show that they are there for us.

I love to travel and when the time came for me to pick a country for my internship, I thought ‘go big or go home’. I started to research internships abroad and Connect-123 came up. I completely loved the idea of going all the way to Cape Town South Africa, even though initially I was skeptical because I didn’t know anyone there. Connect-123 was able to place me with an amazing fashion designer located in the city center. Everyone in the company was so welcoming and super friendly. I got to work side by side with the designer herself which helped advance the skills I already had. With the internship I was able to see exactly what goes into the production of a collection and the fact that the designer was invited to show at Mercedes Benz Cape Town Fashion Week made it all the more incredible. I helped with all aspects of production including research on trends and story boards. Along with having a great place to intern, Connect-123 also had weekly events and set up sight-seeing tours of the beautiful Cape Town for all connectors. Overall, I will say I truly enjoyed my stay, enjoyed learning about the culture and differences and would go back in a heartbeat. Thanks Connect-123!

When I started looking into intern opportunities I was very open to options. My preference was interning at a design firm, but I was open to anything remotely related to the art and design field. I knew the experience would be amazing regardless, and I was not disappointed in the least. Connect-123 found me a terrific position as an intern with an NGO focusing on the rights of the disabled. My role was to rebrand their organization. I started from the core with a new logo and brand image, applied the new image to existing print media and also created new materials providing my opinion on ways for them to promote their organization. Being the sole person in charge of their rebrand provided me with a lot of responsibility and creative freedom that I would likely not have had at a design firm where I would have been at the bottom of the “food chain.” It was also very rewarding being able to use my skills to help such a great NGO. Having the whole identity package for my portfolio and the international experience for my resume are just more benefits of an amazing experience. My internship was terrific, but that is just one aspect of the overall incredible experience. Cape Town is just as beautiful in real life as in the photos and provided a stunning environment to practice my photography and fine art hobbies. It provides sharp cultural diversities and an eclectic array of activities to suit anyone’s tastes from fine dining at the world class restaurants, letting loose on Long Street with the numerous bars and clubs, to hiking up Table Mountain or lounging at the Camps Bay beaches to name a few. Cape Town will always hold a special place in my heart, but it is the people I met there that I will miss the most. The only negative part of my experience there was having to say goodbye to the great friends I had made. It was one of the greatest experiences I’ve ever had and I want to thank Connect-123 for making it possible.

My wife, Jessa, and I had the unique opportunity to move to Cape Town after graduating college and getting married (we were busy!). Through Connect-123 we were both able to find internships that fit our skill sets, personatilies, and interests. Jessa worked for an organization that spent time after school teaching kids the importance of education, physical fitness, and social responsibility. While working in one of the most beautiful places in the country, she got to interact daily with kids who lived on wine farms. Her mornings were spent designing brochures, invitations, and presentations for the organization. She also planned out math lessons for the after school program. In the afternoon, she met with kids at the farm schools for an hour of education and homework followed by an hour of sport. Being an advertising major and an athlete in college, this internship was a great match. Jessa learned a lot about the South African culture from both the women at the office as well as the students. She even picked up on some Afrikaans. One of her favorite projects was coming up with a skit for the annual Christmas play that the children act out for local nursing homes. I had the unique opportunity of working for a non-profit microfinance consulting firm. I graduated with a degree in finance and was very interested to see how micro finance worked in the real world! Overall, I was very impressed with the amount of responsibility given to me during my internship, especially compared to some of the internships that I completed in the US. The company that I interned for expected me to make a meaningful contribution to the office, and allowed me to use some of the skills that I had coming out of college to help them out. I was able to learn about micro finance "from the ground up" when I walked around a South African township with one of the bank's loan officers and experienced what their loan application / collection process was like. I was also given the opportunity to do research and contribute towards many of the documents that we prepared for clients. The highlight of my internship came towards the end when I went to work at one of our client's offices and help them improve some of their processes. It was great to have a chance to get out of the office and work face-to-face with the clients. Overall, Jessa and I were very happy with our Connect-123 internships and would recommend it to anyone interested. It was great to have a place to intern abroad and a community of people to experience it with.

I had the most amazing time in South Africa and the internship that Connect-123 found for me was outstanding! I learned a great deal from the animation company I worked with. My accommodation was also great and the location was within walking distance to restaurants and the Waterfront. Steven and Lea were always there for me and when I first arrived, it was nice to step off the plane and know that I would be taken care of. The events that Connect-123 set up were enjoyable, there was always something going on almost every week. South Africa is a place that you will never forget because there is so much to do and the scenery is gorgeous!
